George Milner

  General Notes:

George and May Ellen Orr were married at Morristown, Ohio, June 25, 1835, by Asahel Hoge. They immediately set up housekeeping on a farm three miles northeast of Morristown and continued to live there until March 1855, and where eight of their children were born. George Milner was a wagoner on the National Pike, hauling commodities both ways from Baltimore, Marylnad on the eastern seaboard to Wheeling, West Virginia and St. Clairsville, Ohio on the west. He would haul imports, such as dry goods, salt, sugar and liquors on the western trip and on the return trip he would haul grain, meats, hides, furs, tobacco and other farm products. He drove four-horse team. The wagoners would usually go in grouops of four to six teams; they had to double teams on the long steep grades crossing the Alleghany Mountains. He continued driving team until March 1855.

George and his brother Edward moved with their families to Morgan County, ohio. Joseph Milner, their father, bought an eighty-seven acre farm for George and a one hundered and seven acre farm for uncle Edward. They both lived on these farms until 1885. When all their children were grown and had gone from the old home, they both sold their farms. These farms were rough, hilly, fertile, timberland, well watered with good springs.

George and Mary Ellen Milner, after they sold their farm, moved to Savannah, Missouri, October 27, 1885, and took an apartment adjoining and in the same building with Mattie E. Harris and James W. Harris, her husband, and lived there until George Milner died on February 27, 1887; Mary Ellen Milner then lived with her daughter, Mattie, until her death May 5, 1892. They are both buried at Savannah, Missouri.

George married Mary Ellen Orr, daughter of Sampson Orr and Jane Unknown, on 25 Jun 1835 in Belmont, Ohio, USA. (Mary Ellen Orr was born on 26 Oct 1817 in County Loundonderry, Ireland and died on 5 May 1892 in Savannah, Andrew, Missouri, USA.)
