"Jacob Op-den-Graeff, one of Abraham's four children, had a son named Joseph, who settled in York, Pennsylvania.Joseph was married twice. One of his sons, Nathan, David Updegraff's grandfather, moved from Pennsylvania to Ohio, establishing his home near what is now Mt. Pleasant. There he built a large flour mill, which was quite successful and became known as Updegraff's Mill. Nathan was also a farmer and one of the area's most influential citizens. He was a delegate to tho Ohio Constitutional Convention in Chillicothe in 1802 and is reguarded as one of the originators of that state's bill of rights. He also took a stand in favor of the rights of equality and sufferage for blacks, a stand which was not extremely popular and did not receive support in the convention"
