Robert Ellis of Merion, died about 1708. He was the son of Rowland
Ellis, of Bryn Mawr in Merionethshire, who was the son of Ellis Price (ap Rees)
and Anne Humphrey, his wife. Rowland married (1) Margaret, dau. of Ellis Morris
of Dolgun, and had two daughters, viz: Ann (m. Rev. Richard Johnson of
Dolgelly); Jane. Rowland m. (2.) his cousin, Margaret, dau. of Robert ap Owen
of Dyffrydann, and had 5 children, viz: Elizabeth (d. unm.); Rowland; Robert;
Ellin (m. John Evans of Gwynnedd, Pa.); Catharine (d.unm.)
Rowland Ellis, about 1704, built the Bryn Mawr mansion, afterwards
knownas "Harriton", later the residence of Charles Thomson, Secretary of
Continental Congress.
Rowland Ellis was born in Wales, 1650; d. Gwynnedd, Pa. 1731. Buried
at Plymouth Meeting.
Margaret, the wife of Robert Ellis, was the daughter of William John of
Gwynnedd, she married Robert in 1705. She married David Llewellyn of Haverford,
widower, in 1709.
Robert was a son of Rowland Ellis.
Morris Llewellyn, botn at Castlebith, Pembrokeshire, 1645, and his wife
Ann (maiden name Young) born 1647, came to Haverford, 1686. Their children
were, David, Mary, Morris and Griffith, all born in Wales except the last.
David married, 1706, Margaret Lawrence of Haverfdord; and after her decease,
Margaret Ellis, widow, of Gwynnedd. Morris Llewellyn married Elizabeth Thomas
of Merion. David Llewellyn was member of the Assembly, 1689.

The Llewellyn homestead is still standing (1908) near the grounds of
Haverford College. One son settled in the neighborhood of Merion Square.

The name of Morris Llewellyn is on Dr. George Smith's, "Map of Early
Settlements in Delaware County." 1
Robert married Margaret Jones, daughter of William John and Jane Hugh, on 3 Sep 1705 in Gwynedd mm, Montgomery, Pennsylvania. (Margaret Jones was born about 1680 in Merionethshire, Wales and died in 1767.)
