Cyrus Baldwin

Cyrus A. Baldwin, eldest son of Jonathan and Mary A. (Albertson) Baldwin, was born June 3, 1837, in Hamilton County, Ind., and when sixteen months old his parents removed to Wayne County, where he lived on the home farm till he grew to manhood. He received his early education at the country schools, after which he attended Earlham College on e year. He then taught school sixteen terms during the winter and farmed in the summer. He taught his last term in the winter of 1877 - 78, since which he has been engaged in farming. He was married Sept. 22, 1859, to Barbara A., daughter od Jacob and Catherine (Shock) Sherrick, who were of German ancestry, both now deceased. They have four daughters - Luella, Edna, Florence and Lodosca. Mr Baldwin and family are members of the Society of Orthodox Friends and he is a minister. His wife is an Elder in their church, and he is Clerk of their Monthly Meeting. Mr Baldwin's father was born in Guilford County, N. C., of English descent, and in 1826 came with his parents to Wayne County, where he was married. In 1836 he went to Hamilton County, but returned to Wayne County in 1838. His wife was born near Richmond, Ind. Her parents came from North Carolina to Wayne County about 1812 or 1813
