John Pusey

  Research Notes:

To son Ellis Pusey int. for 2 years on Bond of £150 which I have against him. To son William £400. To son Joshua 1/2 of my Mill andPlantation where I now dwell cont about 140 acres - also my right in apiece of London Land adjoining thereto paying to my wife £250. To wifethe other 1/2 of said land for 12 years after my dec. - at which timeson Joshua is to have the whold Est - To son Lewis £400 at 21. To dau Elizabeth wife of John Smith £200. To dau Mary £200 at 18. To dausPhebe, Hannah & Lydia £200 each at 18 - Wife not named & son Joshua Exrs. Letters to Joshua - the other being decd Joshua Johnson,Jonathan Morris, Isaac Jackson wit.[Nichols.FTW][$ changed to £ Feb17, 2000] John and Caleb Pusey were First Purchasers, having eachbought 250 acres on 10-11 8br 1681 (2PA 19:285f ). John Pusey was described as of London, Dyer, and his widow Frances Pusey gave powerof attorney on 2 Februsry 1692 to convey John's 250 acres to Caleb. (2PA 19:285f )
Of the five sons of William and Margaret, only Caleb crossed the sea,but it is generally assumed that John was the father of Caleb's two nephews who afterwards came to Pennsylvania and joined their uncle, being the progenitors of all the later Puseys of the third generatiionin PA, since Caleb had no sons.

Pusey, John, a resident of London, whose wife's name was Frances, purchased land in Pennsylvania, but never came over to reside upon it. He is supposed to have been a brother of Caleb PUsey and the father of the following; William and Caleb Pusey when young men appear to have resided with Caleb PUsey, Sr at Chester and were doubtless employed at the mill. William married 9-5- 1707, Elizabeth, dau of John and Frances Bowater and moved to Londongrove in 1715, where he afterwards erected a mill. His children were John, b. 5-16-1708, d. 4-17-1766, m. Katharine Maris; William b. 1-5-1710-11 m. Mary Passmore; Lydia b. 6-16-1713 m. John Baily; Joshua b. 11-9-1714 d. 8-16-1760, m. Mary Lewis; Elizabeth b. 11-14-1716 m.John Baldwin; Jane b. 10-2-1719 m. Nathaniel Pennock; ;Mary, m. 9-25-1742 to Joseph Dixson; Hannah m. 7-5-1750 to George Carson. Caleb Pusey, Jr m. 9-5-1712 to Prudence, dau of Robert and Lydia Carter, and about 1714 m.oved to Marlborough where he died 4-13-1756. His children were Caleb b. 9-30-1713 m. Margaret ?, and left 4 children - Robert, b. 10-16-1715; Thomas b. 6-24-1818 m. Mary Swayne; ;Margaret b. 8-16-1720 m. John Parry; Ann, b. 4-2-1723 m William Swayne; David b. 4-19-1726 m. Sarah Disxon. The Puseys were doubtless the builders of more mills in Chester County than any other family.

John married Frances Thomson.
